Allied against Israel

President Obama and French President Sarkozy met in Washington on Tuesday. They agree on one thing: Israel's control over its eternal capital must go.
France is standing with the United States in condemning Israeli settlement activity in east Jerusalem.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy (sar-koh-ZEE') says his own commitment to Israel's security is well known but adds that the settlement activity in an area claimed by the Palestinians "contributes nothing."

Speaking at a news conference with President Barack Obama after their White House meeting Tuesday, Sarkozy praised Obama for trying to engage the two sides in peace talks. Sarkozy said that the "absence of peace" in the region "is a problem for all of us" - and that it feeds terrorism around the world.
I wonder if Sarkozy is even aware that the 'Palestinians' claim the entire land of Israel 'from the River to the Sea.' Perhaps he is, and he believes that Jews living in that area 'contribute nothing.' So where is his 'commitment to Israel's security'?

What could go wrong?

The French have always been treacherous and always will be, until there are no French left.

Do you wonder if they would have been allied against the "eternal capital" of Israel had the embassy act been signed?

We know one thing for sure, the road to where we stand today might have been paved a bit easier had a campaign promise just about 10 years ago been held to the fire. (President Bush promised on his first week of office he would sign the embassy act) Our conservative supporters in the upper echelon of the republican party choose to be silent and ignore what is now giving us big trouble today. They choose with their silence the equivalent of those who with their voices rail against Israel.

The significance of the embassy act goes way beyond just placing the US embassy in the capital, Jerusalem. Now we pay. When our friends don't help us how in the name of G-d can we be surprised when others unduly spurn us?

Sarkosy is just talking. He's saying what he thinks Obama wants to here while secretly looking down his nose at Obama. Obama though, feels invincible after healthcare. He wants to change the international relationships calculus and he sees the numbers in the Muslim world as the future of friendships and alliances with the U.S. Israel holds as much significance for him as a gnat. For him, the sooner the annoyance is rid of, the better.

The French make great cheeses. But not even Napoleon managed to take Eretz Israel from the Turks in 1799. Who are they to presume what Jerusalem means to the Jewish people?
